Call of Duty: World at War – Final Fronts is the 2008 PlayStation 2 counterpart to Call of Duty: World at War. It has its own set of missions involving the U.S. fighting in the Pacific theater and the Battle of the Bulge in Europe, as well as the British advancing on the Rhine River into Germany. This version features 13 missions and no online multiplayer mode. It was developed by Rebellion Developments and published by Activision. Much like the first three Call of Duty titles, Final Fronts received a T rating from theESRB by toning down the violence. It is the last Call of Duty game to be released on PlayStation 2.

Gameplay[edit]

The game is a first-person shooter like the rest of the Call of Duty games. Its focus is on its single-player campaigns, as it has no multiplayer. The game is set in World War II. The player can carry two guns at one time, and can carry grenades. Levels are played with a team of soldiers from both Britain and the U.S., while helping him or her by killing enemies and opening doors. The game has been criticised by some critics for the poor AI, displayed when friendly soldiers push you out of cover and into the enemy line-of-fire.

Campaigns[edit]

The Game has 4 campaigns: War in the Pacific, Winter Offensive, Victory in Europe, and Victory in the Pacific. The player takes on the role of a marine in the Pacific campaigns and both British and American soldiers in the European campaign. Unlike other "World at War" titles, Final Fronts has a training level. The War in the Pacific and Victory in the Pacific Campaigns see Private Joe Miller (a reference to World at War protagonist C. Miller) and his fellow soldiers Sgt. Roebuck and Pvt. Polonsky (also in World at War) fight their way through Japanese defenses on GuadalcanalBetioSaipan, and Okinawa. A major difference in the American campaign from World at War is the fact that both Roebuck and Polonsky survive the final battle for Okinawa (also, Sgt. Roebuck shares a similar character model to Sgt. Dixon from Call of Duty 3). The Winter Offensive and Victory in the Europe campaigns have three protagonists: Pvt. Lucas Gibson of the US 80th Infantry Division of George S. Patton's Third Army, Pvt. Tom Sharpe of the British 6th Airborne Division, and Gunnery Sergeant Alex McCall of the US 4th Armored Division. The Winter Offensive campaign sees the Americans and British move to relieve the city of Bastogne (while the 80th take Ettelbruck in Luxembourg), and the Victory in Europe campaign sees the British 6th Airborne Division capture the town of Weser during Operation Varsity and the Americans capture Adolf Hitler's birthplace of Braunau-am-Inn inAustria.

Development[edit]

The PlayStation 2 game was not developed by Treyarch, the studio that made the other versions. Rather, its development was outsourced to British studio Rebellion. Built using the Asura engine as opposed to the id Tech engine used for the other versions, Final Fronts allows players to employ elements like fire to affect the dynamics of the battlefield. Some voice tracks are recycled from previous games, predominantly the German voice tracks. As stated before, Sergeant Roebuck shares a character model with Mike Dixon from Call of Duty 3, although he is voiced by Kiefer Sutherland, who voices him in World at War as well.

Call of Duty 3 is a 2006 first-person shooter video game developed by Treyarch and published by Activision. It is the third major installment in the Call of Duty video game series. It was released for all seventh-generation home consoles, the PlayStation 3Wii, and Xbox 360. It was also released on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox.[1]
This game was a launch title for the PlayStation 3 and Wii in North America, Europe and Australia. It was also the only major Call of Duty installment not to be released for personal computer platforms and the only numerical sequel to date to have been a console-exclusive game alongside Call of Duty 2: Big Red One and Call of Duty: Finest Hour. It was also the second installment in the Call of Duty series to be developed by Treyarch after Big Red One.

Gameplay[edit]

Campaign[edit]

The single player is modeled after the Normandy breakout, where the BritishCanadianPolishAmerican, and French Resistanceforces pushed into the village of Chambois, France, also known as the Falaise Gap. Unlike most other games in the Call of Dutyseries, the events in Call of Duty 3 are based on a single combined campaign, with the player being switched between the five armed forces - US Army, British SAS, French Resistance, Canadian Army, and Polish Armour Division - and their respective characters for each leg of the story. There are 14 campaign missions in total, with cinematic to link between each one. Each mission also contains various action sequences where players have to input button commands, whether arming a bomb, or fighting off a melee ambush. In addition, some missions also include multiple choices in routes to completing an objective.

Multiplayer[edit]

In addition to the single-player campaign, Call of Duty 3 features a wide range of multiplayer modes for players to participate in - each team allowing up to 24 on the PS3 and the Xbox 360, and 16 for the PS2 and Xbox in a single match. This is only in the online mode. All team game modes feature the soldiers of the Allied nations versus those of the Axis. Multiplayer features are absent from the Wii edition.
It is the first game in the Call of Duty series to introduce two different game modes. The "Normalized" mode was added to allow console players a way to adjust to the smaller kill box of Call of Duty, its expansion United Offensive, and Call of Duty 2.
On the Xbox 360, Call of Duty 3 divides its multiplayer aspect into Player and Ranked matches. Player matches allow players to invite other players into their games, but do not contribute points toward the leader board or unlock Achievements. Ranked matches put the player with and against teams of random players, and contribute towards player points and allow players to unlock Achievements.

Call of Duty 2: The Big Red One is a 2005 first-person shooter video game. It was released for the GameCubePlayStation 2, andXbox on November 1, 2005 in North America, November 18, 2005 in Europe, and June 29, 2006 in Japan for the PS2 only.
Big Red One differs from other games in the Call of Duty franchise in that it focuses on a single Allied formation in World War II: the U.S. Army's 1st Infantry Division, which goes by the nickname Big Red One due to their unit patch which features a large red numeral one. The game covers the division's part in the invasion and liberation of North Africa, the invasion into Sicily, the landing on Omaha Beach in Europe and moving east, and eventually crossing the Siegfried Line into Germany. Each chapter is book-ended with period footage from the Military Channel, with voiceovers courtesy of Mark Hamill (who was also in the Sam Fuller film, The Big Red One), imitating a World War II documentary.
The game features several actors from the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers, including Michael CudlitzJames MadioFrank John HughesRichard Speight, Jr.Ross McCallRick Gomez, and Rene Morono. The box cover features actor Stephen Saux. The story and characters were written by Aaron Ginsburg and Wade McIntyre.
In North America, it was later released as part of a compilation pack entitled Call of Duty: Legacy for the PlayStation 2 only. The pack included Call of Duty: Finest Hour and Big Red One.[1]

Gameplay[edit]

Call of Duty 2: The Big Red One is a first-person shooter that has a single-player story mode and a multiplayer mode. The player takes on the role of a soldier protagonist in specific missions during World War II from the perspective of the American 1st Infantry Division. The player can crouch and lie prone, and is able to scale low walls and other obstacles. Two firearms can be carried, which can be swapped with those left on the battlefield, and both fragmentation and smoke grenades can also be carried. A gun's iron sights can be used to aim more accurately. A compass on the heads-up display (HUD) shows both allies and enemies, and objective markers to indicate locations the player must reach, areas to defend, or enemy cannons or tanks that the player must plant explosives on to disable. Emplaced weapons such as machine guns and flak cannons are available in some locations to take out enemy forces. In addition, some missions place the player in control of a tank. It is also important for scouting, though most of the game takes place in personal, close combat situations reducing the importance of this tactic.
